Chapter 3 - I Think That You're Amazing
The plane journey was short and quiet. Robert mostly kept to himself, lost within his own thoughts. But who could blame him? He just watched his father walk into his own death. I did manage to get out of him that his aunt was going to be waiting for him, who was also marked, and leave for a special hidden camp. After that, I dropped the subject and just closed my eyes, and listened to the thoughts of others around me.
Just before we got on the plane, I had sent a text to Jakey explaining to him everything that had happened and that I was safe. He proceeded to give me a verbal beating for making him worry. It was only when we were flying that I realised how much of a narrow escape I'd had. If Eddie hadn't have invited me, no, called me, I highly doubt I would be alive right now. I would have to thank him when we land, even if he doesn't understand why. However, it then hit me. They knew about me. After so many years of trying to stay hidden and out of their interest, they finally knew about me and my powers. I would have to lay low from now on.
Aleks, we're here.
I opened my eyes to see crystal blue ones staring at me with caution. Sitting up straight and stretching, I looked around, noticing the plane was mostly empty apart from us and a few others.
"You need to stop staring at me like that, man." I said with a yawn.
I just chuckled at the cluelessness before grabbing my bag and quickly leaving the plane with him closely behind. We managed to grab our luggage from the conveyor belt without any hassle, well, I did, Robert however, had to wait a bit for his. Which was fine, it gave me a chance to text Eddie, telling him I was here as well as Jakey, tell him I had landed safely. He was like a big brother to me, always wanting to know where I was, worried if I didn't reply.
As Robert walked over to the wall I was leaning against, my phone went off. I pulled it from my pocket to reveal a text from Sly.
21st October – 10:17am
Message: I've been here for the past half an hour waiting for you. Hurry up you ass!
A sudden feeling of happiness spread through me, but also guilt. Eddie had been waiting for me. For an hour and a half. That's so sweet. Nodding to myself, I decided that I would try to not make him wait any longer, I'm not worth it.
Grabbing my bags, I sent Robert a quick Let's go from my mind before walking to the pick up area. Who needs to speak when you could just have a conversation with your minds? I should have really figured that out sooner.
Finding the boys' Aunt was easy, she had the same blacky- brown hair as him. She was also looking in the exact same direction that we had come from. My only conclusion was that he had notified her beforehand.
This is where we say goodbye.
Blue eyes shone as he looked at me. I could see sadness within them, but also something else that I just couldn't quite put my finger on.
"Yeah, I'll see you around man, good luck with everything. " I smiled. To be honest, I was sad to see him go too. Been through a lot, for not very long.
He nodded then turned around to leave. I watched them meet up before leaving, keeping a close eye on the people around them to make sure they did escape unnoticed.
Now it was my turn to leave.
Finding Eddie wasn't too difficult, his bright purple beanie made it easy to spot him through the crowd of people. He was sitting on a bench near the Starbucks that was in the airport, messing around on his phone with his head down, probably complaining about how late I was to all the Homies on Twitter. I began to walk over, thinking of a way to trick him, it's his own fault for not looking around him.
I stood before Eddie, him not realising I was there and said in Russian "Вы потрясающий."
He looked up with confusion written all over his face before he saw that it was me. Eddie jumped up to pull me into a tight hug, smile gleaming from his face.
"You ass." he mumbled into my ear, somehow tightening his grip on me even more. I gave a weak laugh, hugging back. Inside I felt safe, I felt like I was at home.
Eddie had managed to park fairly close to the main entrance so getting to the car was a easy walk. No words were spoken, though it was a comfortable silence. It felt nice.
He was going on about random stuff, I wasn't really paying attention, just listening to his soothing voice was good enough for me. It wasn't until he brought up a certain topic that I began to focus again.
"So what happened at the airport? I saw that something was causing delays there when I checked just before I left?" he asked, giving me a quick glance before watching the road again.
"Oh, you know, stuff..." I shrugged. Hopefully, he would pick up I didn't want to talk about it. But of course not, this was Eddie, he would never drop something unless told to do so.
"Yeah? What kind of stuff Aleks?"
"Uhhh..." I stuttered.
"Come on, you can tell me. We're friends right! Friends trust each other." He hummed while turning the wheel as we went round a corner.
"Right. Well, it was Marked stuff. There was an announcement asking for all of them to give themselves in..."
"Oh, okay. Anything else?"
I sighed. "Yeah, I had to help a teenager with his journey after his Dad left him with me..."
Eddie looked at me, brown eyes flaring with curiosity. "Why? What happ-"
"I don't want to talk about it." I snapped, immediately regretting it as I saw his face fall into a hurt frown.
"I'm sorry... " I mumbled.
Giving me his signature giggle, he said "It's okay, because you don't have to worry about the Marked here. They've all been taken away or exterminated."
I'm pretty sure my blood turned to ice.
