Chapter 2 – Flight Is On The Mind
I had managed to book a flight for early the next morning, around 8:30am. I hated planes and airports, too crowded and noisy, it made my heard hurt, but I've know from past experiences that you want it to appear that you are home by keeping the car out front. Stops any curious wonderers, so driving was out of the question.
Jakey agreed to look after Hank and Spiderius for me as well as pick me up from the airport. He was probably the only friend who knew about my marks. He found out by accident and I thought I'd have to fear for my life, but he said he would never judge someone for how they were born, promising to help me whenever he could. Been part of my survival ever since.
I looked up from my hands to the board with all the flights on. The flight had been delayed for thirty minutes. Trust my luck.
Moving one of my hands up to rest on my head, I closed my eyes and sighed. I didn't need to see that the airport was getting busy, I could hear it and the constant string of voices were making my head thump. With practice, I had learnt how to block out a few dozen people but a few hundred? No way, too much energy and would most likely give away my secret. Over the top of the voices, I could hear some 'Marked'. Not many, but they were still there, probably doing the same as me. I hope it worked for them.
I sighed once again. Time was passing slowly and my headache was getting worse. I had texted Eddie saying that the plane was going to be delayed so I was gong to be late, he just replied saying he would be waiting at the entrance regardless. At least I had his smiling face to look forward too.
From my hoodie pocket, I felt my phone go off and when I went to reach for it, a sharp pain went to my head as well as a wave of sickness that came crashing over me. I knew what this meant. Horrified, I quickly placed my head fully in my hands and brought it down so no one could see my eyes change as the vision begun.
A single line of vision, showing the entrance way of my airport. People hurried around me, indicating that it would be busy when this certain event happened. My sight changed, now showing the face of a clock, the time being 8:57am. So this was the future. Useful.
Then, everything went slow. Except for one thing. Or a couple of things I should say. I was now facing the front doors, and in them were four black cloaked figures. Scanning. Looking for someone. They continued to scan around when one of them looked at me, directly into my minds' eye.
Leaving the vision with a gasp, I quickly looked around for anyone who noticed me. By the looks of it, no one did, except a teenage boy, who was staring right at me. Ignoring him, I pulled out my phone, the trigger for my latest vision, to see what it was about. A text, from Jakey.
21st October – 08:45am
Message: Some cloaked figures just came by your house. They are looking for you, Aleks. Stay alert.
Well, shit. If I was in fear from my vision, I was absolutely shaking now. No, pull yourself together, I must not show weakness. I took deep breaths when I heard a voice.
"Hey Mister, are you okay?"
I looked up to see the same teenage boy from earlier in front of me, watching curiously with bright blue eyes.
"Come on, look strong, or you'll bring yourself unwanted attention from the humans." he said in a quieter tone before waving over another male, older. From the looks of him, this boy's dad.
"Dad, Aleks just had a vision, black cloaks are coming, they'll be here very soon and from what I got of his friends text, they're looking for him." the boy explained as he and his father knelt down in front of me. Wait, how did he know all this?
"How d-did..." was all that came out in a stutter. The boy just laughed.
You need to build up a residence to other mind readers, Aleks.
I looked at him again, he eyes shining smugly. I was about to say something when he silenced me and motioned for me to listen.
All those on flight P103 to Pennsylvania, please head to boarding platform 12A. Thank you.
Sighing in relief, I stood up, reaching for my carry-on bag which contained my laptop as well as other important things. I was all ready to leave, only to be stopped by the boy grabbing my arm, motioning for me to listen again.
Due to recent events, would all "Marked" report to the front entrance way, failure to do so will result in severe punishment. We encourage anyone to tell a member of staff if you see any "Marked" breaking these rules. Thank you.
We need to go. Now. Like I didn't know that. I mapped out my plan in my mind; quickly yet calmly walk to the terminal, trying to bring no attention to me at all. Luckily, I was wearing my 'Nobs 4 Lyf' hoodie to cover my tattoos, both natural and inked. Nodding to myself, I started to put my plan into action, to be stopped by someone grabbing my arm once again.
"Aleks, please take my son with you." This time, it was the boy's father that caught me. I turned around, shocked.
"Why don't you come with him? I'm sure you can look after him better than me." I questioned.
"I'm too obvious, so I shall buy you two time. Please, I beg you, keep him safe." Was all that he said before handing his son a plane ticket and leaving, to hand his life away to a child and a stranger that he had never met. The teenage boy was shaken up a bit by the action, so I grabbed his bag and arm, dragging him alone with me to the platform. It was in the queue for the plane that I realised that I still didn't know his name.
"Robert." He mumbled.
I looked at him, giving the boy a "hmm?", requesting him to repeat it.
"My name is Robert."
